Softball swing preview

A development preview of how Swing Lab will read a softball swing from a side-view clip. Same locked phases as baseball. Estimates only — not validated coaching, and not a performance report.

DEVELOPMENT PREVIEW · ESTIMATES ONLY
  • Founder Beta development preview — experimental, not validated coaching.
  • Single-camera projected 2D estimates only. Not calibrated 3D truth.
  • No launch-monitor numbers or accuracy claims.
  • No performance, ranking, or instruction-ready conclusions.
  • Side-view development values against your own baseline. Not a 3D lab report.

Upload a side-view clip

Opposite batter's box, chest-facing, full body. No camera-view picker — side view only.

Before recording on iPhone: Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible.

Side-view angle tolerance is not validated. Clips that look oblique may be marked unavailable (view), and rear or catcher views will be.

Hitter side

If the clip has no usable impact sound, scrub and mark contact.

Locked phases

Customer-facing order is locked: Stance, Load, Stride, Swing, Contact, Follow-Through. Event anchors in this preview are loadComplete, footPlant, and contact.

  1. 01Stance

Athletic base, balance, and posture before the pitch.

  2. 02Load

Store energy into the back hip before the forward move.

  3. 03Stride

Timing, linear momentum, and a controlled landing.

  4. 04Swing

Brace the front side and rotate after plant.

  5. 05Contact

Energy transfer into a firm front side.

  6. 06Follow-Through

    Deceleration and a balanced follow-through.

What is measured

Side-view 2D development values only. Hip-shoulder separation and sequence stay unavailable. Nothing here is a 3D lab pass/fail.

  • Front-knee angle at plantDevelopment preview

Lead hip-knee-ankle angle at foot plant. 2D development value, not a 3D lab norm.

  • Front-knee minimum after plantDevelopment preview

Minimum lead-knee angle between foot plant and contact.

  • Front-knee braceDevelopment preview

Change in lead-knee angle from the post-plant minimum (and from plant) to contact.

  • Front-knee brace rateDevelopment preview

Angle change per second after the post-plant minimum. Angle proxy for lead-leg force, uncalibrated.

  • StrideDevelopment preview

Ankle-to-ankle distance divided by torso length at foot plant.

  • Hip-midpoint shiftDevelopment preview

Mid-hip travel, load to plant and plant to contact, divided by torso length.

  • Head driftDevelopment preview

Nose travel from load complete to contact, divided by torso length.

  • Hip-shoulder separationUnavailable

Permanently unavailable from side view. No numeric field.

  • Sequence orderUnavailable

Permanently unavailable from side view. No numeric field.

Fastpitch and slowpitch still use the same kinetic chain in this preview. Softball norms not sourced. Bat and ball differences are notes, not separate measurements.

How to record

Side view from the opposite batter's box is the only capture angle. Recapture is preferred when the hitter leaves the frame.

  1. 01Prop the phone still — don't hold it.
  2. 02Film from the opposite batter's box, chest-facing. That is the only angle this preview reads.
  3. 03Show your whole body, head to feet. You should fill at least about a third of the frame height.
  4. 04Record one full swing, stance through follow-through. Do not crop the load.
  5. 05Use 60 fps or higher when you can. Bright, even light. Avoid backlight.
